Metadata Operations

Metadata operations involve managing additional information about the data itself, beyond its values. Metadata operations allow users to add descriptive labels, notes, or annotations to columns variables of the dataset, enhancing its usability and interpretability. These operations are essential for documenting and organizing data, facilitating collaboration, and ensuring data quality and consistency.

Types of Metadata Operations

  1. Label
  2. Note

Label

The label operation allows users to assign descriptive labels or names to columns in the dataset, providing meaningful identifiers for easier identification, interpretation and reporting in tables, listings and figures.

After adding the label for the USUBJID column, an i (information) icon will appear beside the column name. The provided label is visible when a user hovers the mouse on the i.

Note

The note operation enables users to attach additional comments, explanations, or annotations to columns, providing context or documentation for future reference, especially for quality control (QC) workflows.

After adding the note for the PCORRES column, an i icon will appear beside the column name. The provided note which is the description of the column will appear when a user hovers the mouse on the i.

Metadata of Note and Label can be added to the same column.
